Planning, creating, and maintaining gardens and landscaped spaces across both private and public environments.

A Landscaper creates or modifies outdoor landscapes in green spaces like gardens and parks. Landscapers must be able to design and construct in such a way that the garden will be contained and can be maintained by either professional or home gardeners. A high level of accuracy is required, for example when levelling or measuring the dimensions of garden features, as this will impact on the overall appearance and the structure’s ability to withstand the outside elements. A landscaper works with trees, plants, turf, and with bricks, pavers, timber, blockwork, stone, water features and walls.

The WorldSkills Australia Landscape Construction Competition is designed to test the Competitors’ skills in performing projects aligned to the training package requirements of a Landscaper in general.

YOU SHOULD PURSUE A CAREER IN LANDSCAPE CONSTRUCTION IF YOU:

  • Enjoy working outdoors, particularly in parks and gardens
  • Have an interest in the natural environment and introducing new resources
  • Are able to transfer visual plans from paper to reality
  • Can perform manual and heavy work
