Crafting timber into high-quality furniture and cabinetry, demonstrating technical skill and a strong eye for design and finishing.

Cabinetmakers make and repair wooden fixtures and furniture. They work from designs and specifications to measure, cut, join and carve wood and other timber materials. This is achieved by using a wide variety of hand and power tools and equipment, including static machinery, to produce objects of both practical and aesthetic value.

The WorldSkills Australia Cabinetmaking Competition has been designed for competitors to perform various mechanical and technical skills whilst completing assigned project pieces.

YOU SHOULD PURSUE A CAREER IN CABINETMAKING IF YOU:

  • Enjoy practical, hands-on work
  • Would like to work with tools
  • Have an interest in furniture and furniture design
  • Would like to work on different projects
